Ricardo Alexandre Martins Soares Pereira known simply as Ricardo is a former Portuguese footballer who played as a goalkeeper.
He represented the Portuguese National Team!
In 94/95 he began his career at his hometown club and in the 2003/2004 season Ricardo moved to Sporting.
In 2003 Ricardo became the undisputed starter of the Portuguese national team.
He became famous for having saved, without gloves, a penalty in the quarter-final shootout of Euro 2004 in Portugal.
He was later the scorer of the last penalty, which qualified the Portuguese team for the semi-finals of the competition.
On July 5, 2004, he was made an Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique.
In the 2006 World Cup, he saved three penalties, placing the Portuguese team among the 4 best teams in the world.
Ricardo was the second goalkeeper with the most saves during the World Cup, and was considered the 3rd best goalkeeper in this World Cup.
He was the 3rd best goalkeeper in the 2006 World Cup and the 7th best goalkeeper in the 2005/2006 season.
